Playing for United
Being a massive football fan I am always looking for new talent to spot. I might be a Dundee United fan but I look much further than that when searching for new talent.
Yes you can watch national teams and see what that particular country has to offer. However, why would you want to search for talent in a national team when you already know that they are good players.
Scoring goals for United
For me, I enjoy watching Under 20s play. This allows me to see what players to look out for. Over the years I have found many players to admire from a far. One of these players names is Charlie Telfer.
Born 4th July 1995, makes him 20 years old. Charlie has played for Scotland at Under 17s as well as Under 19s before moving onto the Under 21s level, which he is playing in currently.
Now that he is at Tannadice I am able to see Charlie grow as a player. However, when he signed for Dundee United on 2nd June 2014 I already knew what type of player he was and couldn't wait to see him play for my team.
While watching United Under 20s for the past three years I saw Charlie play while he was with Rangers. He was at the Glasgow club for 11 years, he signed his first contract in 2003 at the age of 8. In 2011, Charlie signed his first professional contract. This meant that Charlie was able to play for the Under 20s and First Team at Rangers.
Being unveiled as a Dundee United player
Unfortunately for Charlie, he only played one game for the First Team at Rangers. Although he did play many games for the Under 20s before moving to the Tannadice club where he is getting plenty of first team games.
Over the past four seasons I have started admiring Charlie more and more. The first season I just watched him when he played against United Under 20s. However, the more I started getting into 20s football I started watching out for him more and more. Some people will think I am crazy for watching and admiring a massive rival of my club for two seasons.
I knew that Charlie would eventually get onto bigger and better things which at the time Rangers couldn't give him. Possibly due to the situation that Rangers were in at this time. When I found out that Charlie was possibly signing for Dundee United, I was so pleased because I know how good our youth system would provide Charlie with the games that he deserves.
With me watching him properly for two years I knew what to expect from him when he arrived at Tannadice. Him signing on my birthday was the best day ever. One of my favourite Scottish player had signed for my club.
After Charlie scoring number 6 against Dundee
In my opinion, I think Charlie will continue and grow at Tannadice. I am very much looking forward to what he has to offer in this coming season. However, can anything really top him scoring number 6, yes you read that right, number 6 against local rivals Dundee. This was a record breaking goal as well as a great goal. I am really hoping that in this coming season (2015/16), Charlie is able to show the United fans what he is really made of. More first team starts and hopefully more goals.
