My Man of the Match: Radoslaw Cierzniak

It was time for the second derby of the week. This time in the League Cup. United were in high spirits due to the win at the weekend over their rivals.

However, it was Dundee who started the game strongly with them taking the majority of the possession in the first 10 minutes of the game. Attempts from Boyle and Tankulic were held well by the United back line.

For the next five minutes United tried to get back into the game however this wasn't good enough for the Dundee team.

Penalty Dundee, Rankin fouled McGowan in the box. Greg Stewart stepped up to the mark. Cierzniak SAVED. Cierzniak, managed to kick the ball away with his foot, to prevent Dundee from taking the lead in the 17th minute.

Not much action happened in the next ten minutes of the game. 25 minutes gone and Tankulic missed an attempt.

Sending off, Dundee. Martin Boyle, a straight red for Boyle due to foul play on Dow. This left Dundee down to 10 men within the first 30 minutes of the game.

With the half hour mark approaching and Dundee down to ten men. United tried to get back into the game. It was end to end until the 35 minute mark.

United were looking like the better team as the first half came to a close. Two corners in quick succession allowed the team to get back into the game.

Attempts from both ends ended the half. A goalless half, saw a very vital second half coming up.

Half Time Dundee United 0 - 0 Dundee

Second half begins and it's all about Dundee United.

Attempts from Paton, Ciftci and Armstrong saw United look stronger after the half time talk. In the first ten minutes of the first half it was all about United.

Right up until the 70th minute, United were doing everything they could to pressure the Dundee defence and goal. Nothing managed to happen.

The sold out United end got right behind their team and sung their hearts out.

Other than attempts for United and pressure from United, nothing else really happened right up until the 83rd minute.

In the closing stages of the game, both teams were doing as much as they could to get back into the game and do everything they could to try and break the dead lock.

Into stoppage time, 92 minutes gone and a final corner for United before extra time would have to begin. Jarsolaw Fojut, header the ball up and over Letheren's head in the Dundee goal.

Fojut's 92nd minute goal sent the United crowd wild. That was the last play of the game and after a very long drawn out game. United managed to break the dead lock. It ended with United getting through to the next round.

Full Time Dundee United 1 - 0 Dundee

My man of the match was Radoslaw Cirrzniak because over the past few games he has shown how much he has come on as a keeper and has really proven his worth to the team. His fantastic penalty save to stop Dundee gaining the lead and his other fantastic saves throughout the game, gained him my man of the match award.

Attendance: 13,041
