It was the first derby of the season. It was also the first game of a double derby.
Dundee United were the team that were looking more up for the game. They had the majority of the possession in the first 20 minutes and they were having the most successful attempts on goal.
The United defence was holding up the Dundee strikers, which was proving good for United.
In the 25th minute a foul on Mackay-Steven in the box from Konard. Penalty for United. Mario Bilate stepped up to the mark. He managed to hit the ball left footed past Letheren. This gave United the lead in the derby.
After the penalty, Dundee was trying to get back into the game. Roberts gave Dundee the first attempt of the game. However this attempt was missed.
It was United that were the team with the upper hand as they approached the half hour mark.

Second half under way. United started the second half quickly.
It was all about United and in the 53rd minute Ryan Dow, gave United the double lead. A shot that landed in the left hand corner allowed the Dundonian to give United the double lead.
After a few substitutions for Dundee, there wasn't much game play before United extended their lead.
58 minutes gone, a set play from Paton allowed Calum Morris to get his head on the ball and place it in the bottom right hand corner of the net.
After the third goal, United were pushing even more than before. Dundee were trying to come back into the game however it just wasn't good enough.
United were doing everything they could to get the fourth goal. A Spittal attempt was saved along with previous other attempts.
In the 78th minute, through another Paton set play. This time Keith Watson was the person to put the FOURTH goal of the afternoon, he got his head onto the ball and placed it into the bottom left hand corner.
With the United fans chanting 'we want five' rang around the stadium. The United boys tried their hardest to deliver this with both Spittal and Smith having good shots on goal.
Sending off, Dundee. Thomas Konrad. Another foul on Mackay-Steven for Konrad sees him get his second yellow of the afternoon and is sent down the tunnel by Steven McLean.
With ten men, Dundee managed to get a consolation goal. Greg Stewart, managed to blast the ball past Cierzniak in the United goal in the 92nd minute.
That was the last play of the game. In the first derby it ended, 4-1 Dundee United and sees them go top of the league.

My man of the match was Ryan Dow as he managed to show how his experience allowed United to gain the lead from the Dees. He managed to show why he deserved to be in the team. Ryan also managed to get the second goal for the Terrors.
